Tasting Notes

2022 Carneros Pinot Noir
Our 2022 Carneros Pinot Noir opens with expressive aromas of bright Bing cherries and crushed red berries, alongside floral notes of violet and rose, accented by fresh herbs, subtle cedar spice, and a touch of volcanic minerality. The palate showcases strawberry, red currant, and black cherry, buoyed by vibrant acidity. Notes of willow bark, orange peel, and rooibos tea add complexity, while an earthy, forest floor character emerges alongside warm hints of almond skin, mushroom, vanilla, and cigar box. Medium-bodied and easy-drinking with glossy tannins and a refined balance, this Pinot Noir is both approachable and nuanced. Its bright, lifted character and underlying tension offer immediate charm while promising further evolution in the bottle.

2021 Deer Camp Vineyard Pinot Noir
A Pinot Noir of striking ruby hue, with flecks of garnet, this wine entices aromatically with a subtle sweetness of boysenberry confiture layered with notes of ripe red and dark fruits. A dark volcanic minerality accompanies an earthiness which echoes the terroir of Grace Benoist Ranch. A plush mouthfeel aids in showcasing a juicy and pleasing palate. Notes of olallieberry take center stage, intermingling notes of blackberry and red raspberry seamlessly. Certain to age gracefully when cellared properly over the next three to eight years.

Grace Benoist Ranch

An exemplary expression of Grace Benoist Ranch estate vineyard, this cuvée is a blend of the best vineyard blocks on the Ranch, tucked away in the far northwest corner of the Carneros appellation. Unlike most Carneros vineyards, which are largely uplifted bay bottoms with soils composed of clay, the soils of Grace Benoist Ranch are variations of volcanic origin. Combining these well-drained, rocky upland soils with the extreme western location closer to San Pablo Bay, makes this cooler site an ideal place to grow Burgundian varieties, known for crafting the world’s best sparkling wines. Vineyard blocks are individually managed to conform to various soil types and the changing contours of the hillside topography. Individual vineyards within Grace Benoist Ranch average only eight acres in size, and spacing is dense to ensure low per vine yields of fully concentrated fruit. As stewards of the property, Etude remains steadfast in our commitment to adhere to sustainable agricultural practices that enable us to farm in concert with the surrounding environment. Wildlife corridors, raptor roosts and owl boxes are abundant throughout the Ranch.
