This wine presents a beautiful deep garnet hue and opens with a concentrated nose of blue and black fruits - cassis, black cherry and black plum; layered with graphite and a subtle note of melted black licorice. The palate carries those aromas forward, joined by a faint balsamic nuance that adds complexity. Youthful, rounded tannins provide structure without hardness, supporting a wine that is drinking well on release while possessing the framework to develop further with time in the cellar.

Vine Hill Ranch

Grapes were sourced exclusively from Block 1 of the Vine Hill Ranch, planted to Clone 4 on three different rootstocks, nestled along the toe slope of the Mayacamas Mountain Range at the southwest end of the Oakville AVA. For three
generations, the Phillips family has carefully managed this alluvial benchland vineyard of cobbly, well-draining soils, which is home to some of the most expressive and concentrated Cabernet grapes in the Napa Valley. Michael Wolf, who has watched over Vine Hill Ranch for nearly two decades, makes certain the vineyard is healthy and offers its ultimate expression for Cabernet Sauvignon.

Crafted Excellence

Winemaking

The grapes were cold soaked for 3-5 days and fermented on their skins in open top fermenters. An extended maceration period followed fermentation, to help modify the depth and mouthfeel of the wine, and to extract color, flavor, and aromatics fully. The young wine was then racked into small French oak barrels (80% new) – using a selection of coopers and forests to accentuate the vineyard distinctions – where it aged for 20 months.
