Vintage 2015
Wine Type White
Varietal Pinot Gris
Region Carneros
Winemaker Jon Priest

This wine is crafted from grapes grown in two unique vineyards in the Carneros appellation — 74% coming from our Estate Vineyard at Grace Benoist Ranch and the remaining 14% from Cold Creek Vineyard. Certified Alsatian clones are planted in deep, well-drained loamy soils at Grace Benoist Ranch, perfect for grape growing.  The cooler temperatures at both vineyards provide for a long and even growing season, allowing the Pinot Gris fruit to fully ripen while still preserving natural acidity.

“Black cherries, plums, mocha and dark spices are all pushed forward in Etude's 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon St. Helena. Exuberant, ripe and flashy, the 2012 offers notable depth and voluptuousness in a racy style that is typical of the northern corridor of St. Helena. Drink it over the next decade or so.” - Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media

Winemaker Tasting Note

The 2015 Etude Pinot Gris has structural integrity, sheer mouth-filling stone fruit and citrus flavors and balancing acidity. At once the wine is texturally rich, crisp and lively. It shows citrus blossom and powerful but subtle flavors of Mirabelle plum, key lime and apricot that finish fresh and long.

About the Vintage

After three years of plentiful harvests, the 2015 vintage brought low, but outstanding yields. A mild spring and summer with almost no rain allowed the fruit to ripen at a very steady and deliberate pace, and picking began a few days earlier than 2014. The drier-than-normal conditions and abundant sunshine contributed to the smaller berry size and low yields, resulting in wines with excellent concentration, color and flavor.
