Vintage 2015
Wine Type White
Varietal Pinot Blanc
Region Carneros
Winemaker Jon Priest

This wine is crafted from Pinot Blanc grapes grown on our Estate Vineyards at Grace Benoist Ranch. The small vineyard parcel is planted with certified Alsatian clones and the deep, well-drained loamy soils are perfect for grape growing. The cooler temperatures at Grace Benoist Ranch provide for a long and even growing season, allowing the fruit to fully ripen while still preserving natural acidity. Pinot Blanc tends to be the most vigorous and productive of all the Pinot varieties, but the limiting soils of Grace Benoist Ranch and deliberate crop thinning help moderate the cluster size to yield a pure varietal expression.

Winemaker's Tasting Note

This Pinot Blanc is noticeably rich and round, with a medium body leading to aromas and flavors of green Granny Smith apples, ripe pear and noticeable hints of Meyer lemon. Characteristic aromas of honeysuckle and tree blossoms lead to crisp acidity and a nicely structured and well balanced wine with surprising ageability.

About the Vintage

The 2015 vintage was challenging, with the impact of our continuing drought requiring a deft touch in the vineyard, although there was some winter rain that helped recharge much needed groundwater. Bud break was early in February, and the march toward harvest continued through the season, with fruit arriving about two weeks earlier than normal. Shatter resulted in some blocks with lower yields, but the warm, mild growing days led to fruit with abundant flavor, good acidity and balance. Small but mighty, this vintage will be remembered as an excellent example of what Los Carneros can produce.
