2012 Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

$125.00 Single Bottle
Quantity: - 1 +

The Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon was the first appellation wine to be introduced in our Cabernet series of very small bottlings dedicated to the benchland sub-appellations of Napa Valley. Fruit from the Morisoli Vineyard has been an important part of the foundation of Etude’s Rutherford Cabernet since 2003, and 2009 marked the first year this celebrated vineyard served as the sole source for this wine. Currently under the watchful eye of fourth generation grower Gary Morisoli, this pioneering vineyard produces some of the most sought after Cabernet Sauvignon grapes in Napa Valley. The Moisoli Vineyard is located in the heart of Rutherford on the true and acclaimed bench, where the heat from the ground helps to concentrate the intense crushed berry character that defines Rutherford Cabernet.

Winemaker's Tasting Note

Distinctive to its benchland beginnings, the 2012 Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon has a wonderful concentrated core of fruit and captures a great balance between fruit and structure. Intense, juicy flavors of blue fruit, black cherry and blackcurrant lead to an exuberant finish, backed by powdery, round and long tannins.

244 cases produced.

Vintage

The 2012 vintage began with exceptional, moderate weather that brought virtually no harm to the grapes all the way through fruit-set. The ideal long and mild days continued into the summer and were followed by a cooler-than-normal period at the end of September, allowing for preservation of fruit aromatics, freshness and natural acidity. 2012 will be remembered for its abundance of high-quality fruit, which deliberately ripened to full and balanced maturity thanks to the notably cool temperatures.

95 Points Vinous Media

"Etude's 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford, from Morisoli, is bursting at the seams with intense, juicy fruit. Rose petal, mint, sweet cherries and blue stone fruits race across the palate. A great example of the year, the 2012 drinks well today yet has the stuffing to drink well for a number of years. The exuberant finish only adds to the wine's considerable appeal. Cloves, lavender and mint wrap around the voluptuous finish." - Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media
