Representing three of the major Pinot Noir growing regions on the west coast, the Fiddlestix Pinot Noir, the North Canyon Pinot Noir, and the Yamhela Pinot Noir will allow you to experience the best of these terroirs.

2016 Fiddlestix Vineyard Pinot Noir

Sta. Rita Hills is home to some of Santa Barbara’s best-known Pinot Noirs and occupies the western portion of Santa Ynez Valley between Buellton and Lompoc. The region’s east-to-west orientation, extreme proximity to the Pacific Ocean and ancient marine bed soils are perfect for world class Pinot Noir.

Fiddlestix Vineyard Pinot Noir always shows a sense of elegance, with silky, glossy tannins—and this vintage continues that tradition. Plush and round, full without being overly heavy, savory notes are shared with aromas and flavors of pomegranate, raspberry and plum with a touch of oak spice and toasted graham cracker. The finish lingers, long and satisfying. While restraint and finesse are sometimes used with this wine, in this vintage it’s more of a statement wine, and the statement is clear: This is a fine example of what defines the Santa Rita Hills.

2016 North Canyon Pinot Noir

Less than twenty miles from the Pacific Ocean, North Canyon Vineyard sits along the Santa Maria river bench in a secluded canyon that provides some protection from the region’s renowned maritime influences. Located a bit off the direct valley, temperatures are often a few degrees warmer and North Canyon is exposed to extended periods of sunshine that ensure Pinot Noir matures to a bright red fruit character. A variety of rootstocks and clones are planted in calcareous clay sandstone at North Canyon, which differs from the valley’s defining marine mixture of ancient sea bed, clay loam and sand. Fruit from one select block, located on a bluff in the southern, cooler end of the canyon, was chosen for this Pinot Noir. In order to achieve the same high level of quality wines, the farming of North Canyon is uniquely hands on, which ensures viticulture practices and farming measures are comparable with that of Etude’s Estate Vineyards.

The signature of North Canyon Pinot Noir is a noticeably darker red fruit tone, and this vintage is no exception, given its beautifully saturated ruby red color. Notes of boysenberry, young plum and black cherry intertwine, ushering in nuances of rooibos tea leaves and oak spice. Elegant tannins develop into a supple texture and bright acidity provides a rich buoyancy. This wine has balance, depth and complexity that remains on the palate long into its finish.

2016 Etude Yamhela Pinot Noir Yamhill-Carlton Willamette Valley

The epitome of cool-climate viticulture, Oregon’s Willamette Valley is subject to variances of weather and best known for the equally finicky varietal: Pinot Noir. Home to two-thirds of the state’s wineries and vineyards, Willamette Valley ranges 100 miles north to south following the Willamette River and spans 60 miles at its widest point. The region is protected from Pacific storms on the west by the Coast Range, and the Cascade Mountains on the east separate Willamette’s maritime climate from the dry heat of eastern Oregon.
