While often thought of as an ideal warm-weather wine, Rose is now gracing tables year-round, with the complexity to stand up to rich, ample dishes. Our Grace Benoist Ranch Estate fruit was grown, picked and vinified specifically for this bottling are used to create our vibrant and dry Rose.
A delicate and intriguing rosé full of wild strawberry, fresh raspberry and fragrant cherry blossom aromas on the nose, while the palate shows fruit-forward characters of strawberry crème, pomegranate and blood orange, alongside hints of soft rose water. This rosé is silky in sinewy, with crisp, mouthwatering acidity, balanced by a creamy round mid-palate with buoyant texture and a linear, mouth-pleasing finish. The perfect pairing to warm weather al fresco sipping, and an ideal accompaniment many memorable meals all year round.
The 2020 season will be remembered for factors beyond the typical harvest season. It was a warm, dry winter and the rain and cooler weather didn’t arrive until the end of March. While the mild spring season was a great early start, our winery working conditions had extensive safety protocols due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Summer brought very cool mornings and very warm days, but then harvest was interrupted by wildfires across California, which came as grapes started to be picked, and we were very fortunate that none of our vineyards were in the areas of the active fires. The white wine harvest started in late August, the wines are showing excellent development in cellars, reflecting the fine vintage year.
The Etude Rosé of Pinot Noir is sourced exclusively from parcels on our Estate Vineyard in Carneros at Grace Benoist Ranch where the cooler climate is well-suited for producing a rosé of exceptional quality. The cooling influences of the San Pablo Bay and Pacific Ocean allow for delicate maturation of the grapes and retention of the bright flavors found in the vineyard. This distinctive wine is crafted with Pinot Noir grapes that are grown specifically to showcase the attributes we desire in our rosé – fresh aromatics, vibrant flavors and natural acidity.
This distinctive wine was crafted with Pinot Noir grapes that are grown specifically to showcase the attributes we desire in our rosé. Picked at night to preserve freshness, the grapes are brought to the winery and gently whole berry pressed while the fruit is still cool, being careful to have minimal skin contact. The juice was transferred to older French oak barrels and fermented under cool temperatures. The wine is then aged sur lie (on the lees) for four months, with no malolactic fermentation, to preserve crisp acidity and high toned delicate aromas.
For more than a decade Jon has fashioned Etude wines with a simple creed. Inspired winegrowing diminishes the need for a winemaker to intervene in the cellar. Whether sourcing from the estate Grace Benoist Ranch in Sonoma's Los Carneros, or vineyards like Fiddlestix and North Canyon in famed growing regions of California's Central Coast, his focus is on coaxing the very best from the vineyard. It shows in every glass of Etude.
